Almost three years ago, for my son's birthday, we bought three pet rats. One rat was for my son, one for me, and the third was for my daughter. Over the last few years we lost the first two rats, and each time the kids wrote goodbye letters for them. My son and I would then build a coffin, put the letters in it with the dead rat, and bury it in the yard. I will be making a coffin for Nozomi tonight, but the kids wrote their letters last night.
It is sad to lose our last rat, but we were all glad that we were there when she died. She died in my wife's arms last night while we all sat around and said goodbye.
